Gestalt Publisher CP

Open Gestalt Publisher CP

Version 1.31.0

  • Docent now answers inside Help: type a question in Help's search box ("how do I add a page") and the best answer from Help shows above the results, with the article it came from. Search also finds articles for questions in plain words.
  • The Ask Docent button is put away until Docent can do more than Help search.
  • Help now opens below the top bar, so the Help button stays in view.
  • Publisher builds on a Mac again: two shared files had names that differed only by capital letters, which a Mac treats as the same file.

Version 1.30.2

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.30.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.30.0

  • New default home screen icon: when someone adds a Publisher CP site to a phone or tablet home screen, it now shows the Gestalt System app tile (orange with a white newspaper), the same style as PM, UXR, Forms and Publisher DS and Docs. Browser tab icons keep the GP mark.
  • A site icon you upload in the admin still replaces the default everywhere, home screens included. Choosing "Use the default icon" brings back the new tile.

Version 1.29.0

  • Meet Docent, your guide to the admin. Choose Ask Docent just left of Help in the top bar (or press Ctrl+J, ⌘J on a Mac) and ask how to do something. Docent answers from the admin's Help, shows which article the answer came from, and suggests others worth a look. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Version 1.28.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.28.0

  • The side menu folds to a narrow strip of icons, so pages get more room. Use Collapse menu at the bottom of the menu, or press Ctrl+B (⌘B on a Mac). On smaller laptop screens it starts folded until you choose, and your choice is remembered. In the strip, each icon's name shows beside it when you point at it, and new counts show as a dot.

Version 1.27.0

  • The admin now works like the other Gestalt System apps (PM, UXR, Forms and Publisher DS and Docs). Its screens are listed in a side menu on the left, grouped, instead of a row of links and drop-downs along the top. On a phone, the menu button at the top left opens the same list.
  • New messages, add-on updates, new form responses and a new version show as small numbers beside their screens in the side menu.
  • The header shows Admin with the version, a Back to site link, the Gestalt apps button, Help and your picture, in the same order as every other Gestalt System app.
  • Your picture opens the same account menu as the other apps: your name and role, Theme Mode, Account, View site, About, Release notes and Sign out.
  • The sign-in and password reset pages use the same sign-in card as the other Gestalt System apps.
  • Every admin page ends with "Gestalt Publisher CP by Phantomnaut", and a Skip to content link helps people who use a keyboard.

Version 1.26.3

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.26.2

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.26.1

  • Important fix: with one web address set, the home page on the old address now moves to the new one too (other pages already did).

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.26.0

  • One web address. When your site moves to a new address, visits to the old one open the same page on the new one, so saved and shared links keep working. Nothing changes until you set it up.

Needs your attention: only if you are moving your site. Add the new address in your hosting, then set CANONICAL_HOST to it (for example www.yourshop.com) and SITE_URL to https:// plus the same address, and redeploy. Add the new address to your Supabase project's sign-in settings too (Authentication → URL Configuration).

Version 1.25.0

  • Connected apps in Media: make a read-only key so Trove UI in Gestalt Studio can browse your Media Library and copy pictures from it. A key can only read the library, shows when it was last used, and stops at once when you remove it.

Needs your attention: press "Update the Media Library" on the Media page to turn on keys.

Version 1.24.0

  • Release notes in the account menu, under About, show what changed in each version of Publisher CP: the six latest, then View more with a search box at the top. Fix-only versions just say "Bug fixes and code cleanup."
  • The new version card has a Release notes link too, so you can see what is waiting before you refresh.
  • After an update with real news, a small What's new card shows once in the corner, with a link to the release notes.
  • The admin's colors come from the Gestalt visual language 0.48.

Version 1.23.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.23.0

  • About in the account menu opens the About card, like the Gestalt Studio apps: the Publisher CP icon, name and purpose, “by Phantomnaut”, the version and build, “Part of Gestalt Publisher” (the logo is a placeholder for now), who makes it, and the License, Privacy and Terms links.
  • The admin's colors come from the latest Gestalt visual language (0.47).

Version 1.22.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.22.0

  • Videos in pages and posts. List the addresses you trust under Site Settings → General → Video sources (for example your Vignette UI), and a clip link from one of them, on a line of its own, plays as a video. Links from anywhere else stay as text.
  • From Vignette UI to a blog post. Vignette UI's Send to › Publisher opens a new post here with the video and its summary already in it, as a draft for you to finish and publish.
  • Signing in to the admin now brings you back to the screen you were opening (such as that new post), instead of the dashboard.

Version 1.21.0

  • New version notice in the admin. When a new version of your site goes live while the admin is open, a card in the bottom-left corner says so, with Refresh and Later. Nothing reloads by itself, and screens with unsaved changes still ask before you leave. Visitors to your public site never see it.
  • The admin's copy of the Gestalt visual language is now 0.21 (adds the Update available pattern; no values changed).

Version 1.20.2

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.20.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.20.0

  • WooCommerce Import can now bring over past orders (Preview, optional): Admin → Import → WooCommerce → Past orders. It reads the orders from your old shop with a read-only key that is never saved, so your order list, sales charts and customers' order history are complete.
  • Imported orders are marked "Imported from WooCommerce", can't be refunded from the shop, and send no emails, change no stock and create no customer accounts. A customer sees their old orders when they sign in with the same confirmed email.
  • A privacy step comes first, you can undo an import, and you are reminded to revoke the key afterwards.

Needs your attention: press "Update to 0.2.0" on the WooCommerce Import add-on in Admin → Add-Ons.

Version 1.19.0

  • New add-on WooCommerce Import (Preview). Bring your WooCommerce products over: Admin → Import → WooCommerce. Use WooCommerce's own product CSV (Products → Export), or the Products and Variations files from the WordPress export screen.
  • Simple and variable products come across with prices, sale prices, stock, backorders, weight and sizes. Categories become shop collections, pictures are copied into your site, and old product and category addresses get redirects.
  • Your comics details such as writer or cover artist are kept as product details, and you choose which custom fields to keep.
  • You see a scan and a preview first, imports can be repeated without duplicates, and "Remove everything this import created" undoes them. Products that have orders are never removed.

Needs your attention: install the WooCommerce Import add-on in Admin → Add-Ons (it needs the Shop). Take a backup first.

Version 1.18.0

  • New add-on WordPress Import (Preview). Bring a WordPress site over from its export files: Admin → Import → WordPress. Choose the Posts, Pages and Media files together and see what will happen before anything is written.
  • It imports posts and pages (keeping dates, drafts and scheduled posts), categories, authors' names, pictures and the menu. Pictures are copied into your site, and old addresses get redirects.
  • Every import can be repeated without duplicates and removed again with "Remove everything this import created".

Needs your attention: install the WordPress Import add-on in Admin → Add-Ons. Take a backup first.

Version 1.17.0

  • The top right of the admin now holds just two things on every screen size, phone included: the ? Help button and your picture. Help no longer hides inside the phone menu.
  • View Site and the light/dark switch moved into your account menu. The switch is now a Theme Mode row with a sun and a moon: the filled one is the mode you're in, and a click on the other switches.

Version 1.16.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.16.0

  • New Help in the admin: the ? button in the top bar opens a side panel with how-to articles. It starts on the article for the screen you're on, can search every article, and lists them all by topic.
  • Help covers the whole admin (getting around, the dashboard, pages, home page, Site Settings, themes and wording, messages, add-ons, users and roles, backup and updates) and every add-on, including add-ons you haven't turned on yet, so you can read about one first.
  • The panel doesn't block the screen, so you can follow the steps while it's open. You only see articles for what your role can do.
  • Visitors never see Help; it lives only in the admin.

Version 1.15.0

  • The admin follows version 0.7 of the shared Gestalt visual language, which adds a loading pattern.
  • While a list, editor, settings screen or dashboard loads, the admin shows gray placeholders shaped like what is coming, instead of the word "Loading…". Fast loads show nothing at all (nothing appears for the first third of a second).
  • The placeholders pulse gently, and hold still if your computer is set to reduce motion. Screen readers hear "Loading" once.
  • Main save buttons (posts, events, campaigns, forms, QR codes, downloads, members-only items) show a small spinner while saving.
  • The public site and themes are not touched.

Version 1.14.0

  • The admin follows version 0.6 of the shared Gestalt visual language.
  • Links in the admin are orange like the rest of the Gestalt apps (they were blue).
  • Badges (Public, Private, New, update tags) use the shared badge colors. "Private" is now gray instead of amber.
  • In the analytics page, the red and green change figures and the red buttons are readable in light mode (the red was too pale on white).
  • Before the site's default admin mode has loaded, the admin follows your computer's light or dark setting instead of flashing light.
  • New "Follow the system" choice for the default admin mode (Site Settings → Admin and placeholder). Anyone who hasn't picked a mode with the toggle sees the admin in their computer's light or dark setting, and it switches when the computer does. New sites start on it. Your site keeps the mode it has until you change it.

Needs your attention: to use "Follow the system", press "Update the site database" (Admin → Updates, or the notice that appears when you save that choice).

Version 1.13.0

  • The admin now follows the shared Gestalt visual language (version 0.5): one set of colors, type sizes, spacing, corners, shadows and focus ring shared across every Gestalt admin.
  • You will notice clearer outlines on fields and buttons, a deeper orange on filled buttons, a single focus ring, and the admin set in Inter at 14px. The public site is not touched.
  • Secondary buttons are now outlined, and cards have 12px corners.
  • The new dialogs match the visual language's dialog pattern.

Version 1.12.0

  • One-click updates. Admin → Updates (and the dashboard banner) has an Update now button that brings your copy of the code up to date, shows each step as it happens, and finishes with one Finish the update button for the database and add-on updates. It needs a one-time setup: a GitHub access key for your own copy, saved in Vercel as GITHUB_UPDATE_TOKEN. The Updates page lists the steps.
  • Delete and remove questions now open as a dialog on the site instead of the browser's own pop-up. Escape cancels, and "Remove data" still asks you to type the add-on's name.
  • A copy of the shared Gestalt visual language (version 0.4) is added to the project for the admin styling that follows.

Version 1.11.0

  • On every admin screen the explanation for a setting now sits above its box, so it is clear which box it belongs to. This covers the shop, SEO, blog, calendar, portfolio, forms, QR codes, Members Only, Kickstarter and theme settings, and the editors.
  • Each role card says what the role can do, for example "(This role can do: portfolio.write, admin.access, content.write)".

Version 1.10.2

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.10.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 1.10.0

  • New theme Bullhorn for comics publishers: a dark page, a slanted three-line banner, huge orange headings, walls of cover tiles and a picture grid for social posts.
  • New theme Pantheon for comics publishers: a white page with a blue accent, promo cards, a featured video, shelves of covers, a join band and links to Members sign-in.
  • New theme Vanguard for comics publishers: a near-black bar, diagonal cuts, red slanted buttons, a "New this week" grid with Load more, a news list with a headlines box and a video area.
  • Each theme has several palettes and accent colors, and every word on them is editable.

Version 1.9.0

  • New theme Nebula for comics publishers: a deep-space page, a tall banner, a tabbed "New releases | Best sellers" shelf with ribbons, a news row and a promo banner.
  • New theme Masthead for comics publishers: a centered page with a banner slider, a black menu bar with search, a cover strip, a gradient promo, a four-up newsfeed and a video block.
  • Add-on cards on the Add-Ons page show two lines, with a "View more" button. Members and QR codes list their details as bullet points.
  • The shop search can start from the address (?q=word), which Masthead's search box uses.

Version 1.8.0

  • Members (Preview) can now protect shop products, forms and a new Downloads item. A members-only product is hidden from the shop, the cart and the sitemap (a teaser can show its title, picture and short description, never the price), and checkout refuses it. Orders already paid for are never affected by a later change.
  • A members-only form only accepts submissions from signed-in members who are allowed to use it. Anyone else sees the "Members only" panel, or nothing if you chose to hide it.
  • New Downloads (Admin → Members → Downloads): upload a file to a private folder and show it with a Download block. Members get a short-lived link. Files in the Media library stay public and cannot be protected.
  • "Who can see this" is now in the product and form editors, and the Members area overview lists products, forms and downloads too.

Needs your attention: press "Update to 0.4.0" on the Members add-on in Admin → Add-Ons.

Version 1.7.0

  • Members (Preview) can now protect portfolio projects and events too. Each gets the same "Who can see this" control as pages and posts: everyone, any member, certain plans or staff only, with a teaser or hidden completely. Locked events never appear in the calendar feed, and a project's password still applies on top of the members rule.
  • New Members area overview (Admin → Members): every members-only item in one list, filter by kind or rule, change several at once or make them public again.
  • Site Settings: the explanation under each setting now sits above its box, and all footer settings (notice, links, name, "Back to top") are together in one Footer card.
  • Pictures stored in the public folder are not protected by Members; a note beside the control says so.

Needs your attention: press "Update to 0.3.0" on the Members add-on in Admin → Add-Ons.

Version 1.6.0

  • A better footer. In Site Settings → General you can now write the footer notice with quick-insert buttons for © ® ™ and the year (or a year range such as 2020–2026), see a live preview, add up to 12 footer links, and hide the footer completely by leaving it empty. Until you save it, your footer stays exactly as it is now.
  • Address fields (Blog and Portfolio page addresses) keep the site address and the word you edit on one line instead of wrapping.

Version 1.5.0

  • Members (Preview) now has its own sign-in. Visitors can join at /join and sign in at /sign-in with an emailed link, no password. "My account" shows their memberships and shop orders, and lets them download their data or delete their account.
  • Choose how people join: open, owner approval, or invite only. Welcome, approval and invitation emails are in your own words and go through Resend.
  • New Members and Plans screens in the admin: search, approve or decline, change plan, set an end date, invite by email, export a list.
  • A new "Who can see this" control on pages, blog posts and menu links. Members-only menu links stay hidden until someone signs in.
  • A "Sign in" / "My account" link in the site header when Members is on.

Needs your attention: press "Update to 0.2.0" on the Members add-on in Admin → Add-Ons. For sign-in to work, turn on "Allow new users to sign up" in Supabase and set up email (see the Members setup note in docs/add-ons.md).
