Gestalt System PM Base

Open Gestalt System PM Base

Version 0.75.0

  • Docent now answers inside Help: type a question in Help's search box ("how do I invite someone") and the best answer from Help shows above the results, with the article it came from. Search also finds articles for questions in plain words.
  • The Ask Docent button is put away until Docent can do more than Help search.
  • Docent's close and back buttons look like Help's, and Docent is as wide as Help.

Version 0.74.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.74.0

  • Meet Docent, your guide to PM Base. Choose Ask Docent just left of Help in the top bar (or press Ctrl+J, ⌘J on a Mac) and ask how to do something. Docent answers from PM Base Help, shows which article the answer came from, and suggests others worth a look. Nothing you type leaves your browser. Guests don't see it.

Version 0.73.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.73.0

  • The Review's side panel no longer has a Downloads section. Your review pages, pictures and feedback are kept as they were, and Export feedback still saves the feedback as a CSV file.

Version 0.72.0

  • The side menu folds to a narrow strip of icons, so pages get more room. Use Collapse menu at the bottom of the menu, or press Ctrl+B (⌘B on a Mac). On smaller laptop screens it starts folded until you choose, and your choice is remembered. In the strip, each icon's name shows beside it when you point at it, and new counts show as a dot.

Version 0.71.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.71.0

  • The header, sidebar, phone menu, account menu and sign-in card now come from the shared Gestalt System shell, so PM Base looks and works the same as Forms, UXR, Publisher and the rest of Gestalt System. Nothing moves: Help, notifications and your account are where they were.
  • In the full Gestalt System PM, the header has the Gestalt apps button, beside Help.
  • Every page and the sign-in card end with a small "Gestalt System PM Base by Phantomnaut" line, and keyboard users get a Skip to content link first.

Version 0.70.1

  • Important fix: comments and tasks another app adds with your agent token (like a form answer from Gestalt System Forms) now show in your notifications, named for that app. Before, the bell left them out because they counted as your own.

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.70.0

Small improvements behind the scenes.

Version 0.69.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.69.0

  • Spreadsheet layout for tasks. Beside List and Board, a project's Tasks tab and the Tasks page can show tasks as a spreadsheet: one row per task, with columns for status, person, priority, due date and the project's own task fields. Change any of them right in its cell, tick a task to finish it, and choose a column's name to sort by it. Sub-tasks sit under their parent until a column is sorted. On a phone the table scrolls sideways and the task names stay in view.
  • Calendar layout for tasks. The month, with each task on its due date. Drag a task to another day to move its due date, or drag one from No due date onto a day; a busy day shows three tasks and a "more" button that lists the rest. Overdue tasks are marked in red and finished ones are crossed out. On a phone the month becomes a list of the days that have something due.
  • Saved views on the Tasks page remember the Spreadsheet and Calendar layouts too.

Version 0.68.0

  • Sub-tasks. Break a task into sub-tasks from its panel. Each sub-task is a task of its own, with a person, dates, a status and comments, and sits under its parent in the List. The parent shows how many are done ("3 of 5 done") with a bar. Sub-tasks go one level deep and stay inside the project. Move a task under another one, or out again, with "Make it a sub-task of" in its panel. Deleting a parent keeps its sub-tasks as tasks of their own. Checklists stay for small steps.
  • Custom fields on tasks. Each project can have up to 15 fields of its own: text, number, date, dropdown, person or link (for example a client reference, a phase or a deliverable type). Set them up with Fields on the project's Tasks tab, or add them to a project template so every project made from it starts with them. Values show in the task panel and under each task's title in the List and on the Board, search finds them, and dropdown and person fields can be filtered by value (on the Tasks page, once a project is picked). A field marked "Customers can see it" is the only kind an add-on may show to Guests. Removing a field, or a dropdown choice, removes it from every task, and the Fields dialog says so first.

Version 0.67.3

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.67.2

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.67.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.67.0

  • One web address. When the app moves to a new address, visits to the old one open the same page on the new one, so links people saved or shared keep working. Nothing changes until an Admin sets it up: add the new address in the hosting, set CANONICAL_HOST to it and PUBLIC_URL to https:// plus the same address, and redeploy. People sign in again once on the new address.

Version 0.66.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.66.0

  • Task statuses: tasks now move through To do, In progress, In review and Done. An Admin can rename them and add up to four more in Settings › Tasks; To do always comes first and Done last. Ticking a task still finishes it.
  • More on each task: open a task to give it a description, a priority (Low to Urgent) and labels, add a checklist of steps, attach files and comment. Changes save as you go.
  • Tasks tab and Board: each project has a new Tasks tab after Overview, as a List or a Board with one column per status. Drag a card to change its status and order, or use its Move menu (keyboard and phones too).
  • Tasks page: Tasks in the sidebar lists every task on the projects you are on, as a List or a Board, filtered by words, project, person, status, priority, label and due date. Save view keeps a set of filters under a name, on every device.
  • @mentions: type @ in a project or task comment to mention someone on the team. They get a notice in the bell that opens the task. A task's owner also hears when someone else comments on it.

Version 0.65.0

  • Sidebar sections (the older PM's Manage Sidebar): under Home and Projects, the sidebar now groups tools into sections with headings. An Admin sets them for everyone in the new Admin › Sidebar page: add, rename, order, hide and delete sections, drag links between them (or use the arrows and Move to), and hide single links. Deleting a section moves its links to the first section, and Reset goes back to the starting sections. A link still shows only while its add-on is on.
  • Fold a section by clicking its heading. Folding is each person's own and follows them to every device; the section holding the page you are on stays open.
  • Phones: a Menu button at the top left opens the navigation, sections and all, in a panel from the left (it replaces the strip that scrolled sideways). Admin uses the same menu.
  • An extension can bring its own starting sections and extra links (nav in server/extension.ts), and an add-on can give its page a sidebar name of its own (navLabel).
  • The visual language copy is now draft 0.48.

Version 0.64.0

  • Release notes: the account menu has a new Release notes item, under About, that shows what changed in each version. It lists the six newest versions; View more shows every version, with a search box at the top.
  • When a new version is ready, the update card has a Release notes link on its left, so Admins can see what's new before they refresh.
  • After an update with new features, a "What's new" card shows once in the bottom-left corner.

Version 0.63.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.63.0

  • PM Base holds no full PM code. The full PM's add-ons, its icons and vendored plugins, its daily jobs and its sync scripts now live only in the private Gestalt System PM repository, which builds thegestaltsystem.com. Nothing changes for people using PM Base.
  • Clean copies for customers: npm run clean-copy -- <folder> makes a copy of PM Base with one commit and none of this repository's history (docs/extension.md).

Version 0.62.0

  • View more: long lists now show their first rows and a View more link that opens the whole list in a dialog with a search box at the top (the older PM's pattern). It is on a project's Activity card (first 10), Home's Latest activity and My tasks (first 10), and Home's Overdue (first 6). In the full PM, My open to-dos shows 12 tiles and View all for the rest. The dialog lists up to the newest 500 rows and searches as you type.

Version 0.61.0

  • The demo page of the full PM (thegestaltsystem.com) shows what is in the new PM: What's inside now has nine cards (Review with user testing and sign-off, research and the AI research tools, documents drafted with AI, Design Guard, whiteboards and priorities, Calendar and Find a time, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft 365 and agents). PM Base keeps its own six.
  • A new Part of the Gestalt family section (Gestalt System UXR, Forms, Publisher and Gestalt Studio) and a "Gestalt System by Phantomnaut · A Phantomnaut product" footer, on the full PM only, never on a customer's copy of PM Base. They live in pm/src/demo.tsx and reach the page through a new plug-in point, demoLanding in src/extension.ts.
  • The headline and intro are saved in Settings › Demo page; press Reset there to pick up the current wording.

Version 0.60.0

  • PM Base runs on its own. The full PM's add-ons now sit in pm/ behind two plug-in points (server/extension.ts and src/extension.ts), so PM Base builds and passes its tests without them. Nothing changes for people using either edition. This is the first step of moving the full PM into its own private repository (docs/extension.md).
  • The full PM's Help articles, Settings cards, Home calendar cards, project cards, Account cards and Review tools now come through the plug-in points. PM Base alone no longer shows Help for the full PM's add-ons.

Version 0.59.0

  • Demo watermark: the demo account (and anyone set to View only) again sees the older PM's watermark: their name, address and the time tiled faintly over every screen, and the same line in a pill at the bottom left, so a screenshot shows where it came from.
  • About card: the account menu has a new About item (above Sign out). It shows the app's icon, name, what it's for, "by Phantomnaut", the version and build, Part of Gestalt System, the credits and the License, Privacy and Terms links. It is the same card the Gestalt Studio apps have; PM shows Business Center and "Built on PM Base".

Version 0.58.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.58.0

  • Settings, Project sections: Admins can turn off the Timeline, Research and Data tabs and Tasks for every project. Turning one off hides it (Tasks also leave Home); nothing is deleted, and turning it back on brings it all back.

Version 0.57.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.57.0

  • Focused view is back from the older PM: the eye button in the header narrows Home and Projects to My projects or to one of your teams' projects. It turns orange while it is on, Home and Projects say so with Show all projects, and the choice follows you to every device.
  • Settings, Sidebar: Admins set the order of the add-ons in everyone's sidebar.
  • Settings, Type of work: Product design (software), Website design, Print or digital design, or Other, like the older PM's Portal Type. Changing it offers to turn on the tools made for that work and turn off the others (Calendar, Whiteboards, Sign-off and the app connections are never changed). Documents offers the kinds of document made for that work first, with Show every kind for the rest.

Version 0.56.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.56.0

  • Home brings back the older PM's Project Hub alongside what Home already had:
    • Upcoming events as date cards, for the next two months (while Calendar is on).
    • My open to-dos: the unticked checklist items on events you're on. Tick them right there.
    • Latest projects as tiles with their icon, status and when each was last updated.
    • Where projects stand, My tasks, Overdue and Latest activity stay.
  • Admins choose which cards everyone sees on Home, and their order, in Settings, Home page.
  • With the full PM turned on, the browser tab, the installed app's name and the start-up title say Gestalt System PM, never PM Base. The version line in the account menu names both: "Gestalt System PM · on PM Base v0.56.0". If you installed the app on a phone or computer before, remove it and add it again to pick up the new name.
  • Settings that turn something on or off are now switches instead of checkboxes: Add-ons, Sign-in methods, the Demo account and page, email jobs, Gestalt Studio Tasks, weekly status drafts, Find a time and the rest of Settings and Configuration. Checkboxes stay where you pick several things from a list, like who can use a sign-in method.

Version 0.55.1

Bug fixes and code cleanup.

Version 0.55.0

  • New Google Workspace add-on (Admin switch in Settings, Add-ons), beside Microsoft 365. Each person connects their own Google account from a project's Data tab, the Calendar or their account page, and PM reads only with their own access.
  • A project's Data tab gets a Google Workspace card: add Drive files, folders and Google Docs with Google's own file picker, or a Meet call's recording and transcript from your calls of the last 30 days. Everyone on the team sees the links.
  • Research notes can Import from Meet or Google Docs: a Meet transcript (with who said what) or a Google Doc you pick.
  • The Calendar gets a Google tab with your own Google Calendar for the next two weeks.
  • PM opens only the Drive files people pick (Google's drive.file permission), and reads the calendar and Meet read-only. It never reads the rest of Drive or Gmail, so Google's paid security review isn't needed.
  • Admins set it up in Settings, Google Workspace: the same Google app as Sign in with Google, plus the file picker's key.

Version 0.54.0

  • Bring in your old PM content now brings over the old review page: its pages and pictures become Project Review pages, every comment becomes a pin in the same spot (on the same device size) with its replies, author and resolved state, and each drawing (box, arrow or pen) becomes a pin that carries the mark.
  • It also brings each project's activity history and its status updates (the draft and the ones already sent). Imported history doesn't notify anyone or appear in email digests.
  • Running it again adds only what is new.

Version 0.53.0

  • Bring in your old PM content now brings over the old Demo account (domain, shared password, level, issued addresses with their labels and sign-in counts, and the 30-day clean-up), so the demo keeps working after the switch with the same password, plus the demo page's words and its demo requests. A demo already set up here is left as it is.
  • The import card says what the import covers today and to run it one last time just before the switch.

Version 0.52.0

  • While the Demo account is on, people who aren't signed in see a demo page at the site's address (the old PM's landing page): a headline, an introduction, Sign in to the demo, What's inside, How the demo works and a Request a demo form. Your team still has Sign in at the top. It never shows the demo's domain or password.
  • Admins set its words and turn its sections and form on or off in Settings, Demo page, with Reset to the original words.
  • Requests appear in Settings, Demo requests (copy the address, dismiss when handled), in every Admin's notifications, and by email to Admins with the person as the reply-to. The form takes five requests an hour from one network and one a day per email, and quietly ignores bots.

Version 0.51.0

  • The full PM's Demo account is back (Settings, Demo account, Admins only): a domain and one shared password let people sign in as demo@ that domain (or demo@ any part of it) and look around at the level the Admin picks. Nothing they change is saved: the server refuses every change from the demo, and a banner on every screen says so.
  • The banner's See it as switches the demo between Admin, Manager and Contributor, as in the old PM.
  • Issued addresses with labels: once any are issued, only those work. Settings shows when each was last used and how often; removing one signs that visitor out. Remove addresses nobody has used for 30 days runs with the daily jobs, and the demo turns off if the last one goes.
  • Wrong passwords lock a demo address like any sign-in. Turning the demo off, a new password or domain, and Sign out every demo visitor send everyone in the demo back to the sign-in page. The demo account never appears in People, teams or pickers, and a real account is never turned into it.

Version 0.50.0

  • With Gestalt System UXR connected (Gestalt apps add-on), UXR is the home for research, as in the old PM: Research turns read-only. Notes stay to read on the Research page and each project's Research tab, with a note pointing to UXR, and nobody can add, change, delete, restore or summarize notes. Disconnecting UXR, or turning Gestalt apps off, makes Research editable again.
  • Admins get Download the notes there, for UXR's Import from Gestalt System PM. A note on a project linked to a UXR project now carries that project's UXR id, so UXR files it there.
